The Trellis School is a K-12 non-public school serving children with autism based in Sparks, MD (Baltimore County). Our Autism Instructors work one-on-one with our learners and receive extensive training and coaching in behavior management. The school’s educational program is designed to build strong foundational communication, learner readiness, academic, social and play skills in young learners with a focus on using Verbal Behavior (VB).

 

 

Starting Pay Scale:

  • Additional Support Instructor: $21.00/hr
  • High School Diploma: $21.50/hr
  • Associate's Degree/Undergraduate Degree: $22.00/hr
  • Masters Degree: $23.00/hr 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute naturalistic lesson plans outside of the classroom for learners that incorporate motivation and individualized education plan skills
  • Demonstrate the use of evidence based (ABA/VB) teaching strategies to shape skills across learning environments
  • Implement learners’ individualized behavior, toileting, and feeding protocols
  • Accurately complete daily data tracking and input responsibilities
  • Implement feedback and instructional recommendations made by school team (teacher, BCBA, program specialists)
  • Demonstrate positive work ethic by actively seeking supportive tasks, offering suggestions for program improvement, and receiving constructive feedback in a professional manner
  • Create and prepare instructional materials for individual learners
  • Participate in internal team meetings and high profile meetings for students
  • Support general school procedures: such as arrival, lunch schedules, dismissal, cleaning tasks, field trips, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required. Associate's/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility—the individual effectively adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Planning/organizing—the individual is detail oriented, prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
  • Proficiency with Technology- Knowledge of Trellis specific web-based data collection systems and Microsoft Word programs (including word, excel, power point)
  • Self Directed- Must have the ability to work independently and take initiative in taking the first steps or act without being urged to complete responsibilities
  • Problem solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully
  • Multi-tasking – the individual is able to work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Quality control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback to improve performance.
  • Safety and security—the individual observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Must attend all mandatory trainings. 
  • Must be able to speak and read English. The ability to read and interpret documents related to Maryland State Curriculum, accounting, policy and procedures manual(s), safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. The ability to write routine reports, letters and emails as well as general correspondence. Have the ability to speak effectively with special needs children and in describing general work needs and to speak effectively in interpersonal situations.
